MY LESSON LEARNED THIS YEAR

There is almost a good path that you just haven’t discovered yet, so look for it until you find it rather than settle for the choice that is apparent to you” (Ray Dalio)

This has made me think lately. I have wondered how many times I have settled for the first choice that has come up as opposed to wait and keep on looking. But again, how difficult it is to decline good opportunities (even if they are not aligned to your life vision) when you don’t know what’s waiting for you around the corner? How many of us can deal with uncertainty constructively? It requires a great deal of self-confidence, boldness and

determination to settle for what 100% right. I guess it all has to do with your own definition of success. How you define success will undoubtedly shape your decision making on this.

As we are close to leave a year behind, I am taking some time to reflect on all those hard lessons learned, all those projects that I dove myself into which didn’t take me where I wanted to go because I settled for quick wins as opposed to long and sustainable ones, all those projects that I embarked myself into which weren’t aligned to my definition of success, all those assignments that gave me quick results but failed to help me building a robust business. My biggest lesson learned this year is that there is nothing greater than the ability to reject good alternatives in order to pursue even better ones.

Have you paused for a second your frantic lifestyles to ask what does really matter to you? What does success mean to you? And how much are you living up to it every single day?

The end of the year is a great time to recharge and rejuvenate your business or career. Take the time to rest and whilst you are resting, reflect on this past year. As you think back on the year, also take note of lessons you have learned. This is how we grow. Reflecting on your accomplishments and opportunity areas with a clear mind will make it easier for you to make plans for the upcoming year.

When the new year kicks-off you will then be ready to put your plans into action, and you will have the energy and enthusiasm necessary to see them through.

This December take a moment for yourself. Get some rest, reflect on your past year, make some plans, and then take action in 2020!

REFLECT, PLAN and ACT!
